19 Reasons Why You Should Freelance

Freelancing happens to be very rewarding. After all, it can give you independence and freedom, as well as full control over your personal destiny. Naturally, it can be hard work and it can be challenging from time to time, but nothing can beat being your own boss.

If you still aren't sure whether you should freelance or not, just read the top 19 reasons why you should here. Conversely, if you are already freelancing but have lost the passion for it, this article is perfect for you, too!

  1. You're the boss
Yes. You no longer have a boss. You no longer have to worry about appraisals. You'll no longer get into trouble for being late. You no longer have to deal with control freaks, strange directors or manager. You are in full control of your career - finally.
  2. Monday mornings are no more
Don't you just hate Monday mornings? Well, they won't matter anymore once you're a freelancer. See, although a lot of people the world over will be dreading the commute that comes with Monday mornings, you can just lie in bed for as long as you want. Plus, if you really abhor Mondays, then you can even take the whole day off! Freelancing means you get to choose when you work - remember that.
  3. Say good bye to office politics
Yup! You no longer have to think about competing with and getting noticed by your colleagues, and you can say goodbye to office politics, annoying people and bitchy colleagues. All you have to think about from here on out is you, your cup of coffee, your slippers and being comfortable at home. Yes, being on your own is just grand.
  4. You call the shots
Do you want to make some website changes? Well, you can. Do you want to hire your own clients? Well, you can. Since you're freelancing, you get to call the shots. You're the boss. Nobody else matters.
  5. You can do anything, anytime
Admit it or not, everybody loves their freedom. Well, freelancing comes with heaps of freedom, if you need it. Nobody can make you do things or get in the way of you doing things. You are free to do whatever you want, really.
  6. You can make your own schedule
Not fond of waking up before 9 in the morning? Not fond of working late on Friday nights? Do you want to go out in the middle of the week and join a dancing class? Since you're a freelancer, you can create your own working schedule. You no longer have to follow the 9 to 5 rule anymore. If you think your clients won't approve, just say you're busy. No one will get to check what you're busy with anyway, right?
  7. You can pick your office location
Freelancing gives you the opportunity to pick your own location to work in. Thanks to today's technological advancements, you can work from anywhere you want. Not everyone likes to work from home, after all. So, if the sun is out, you can work at your local park, and when it's raining, you can go to your favorite coffee shop with your laptop and work there.
  8. You get to choose your clients
In the beginning, you may come to find that you will be happy to take all of the work that you can get your hands on. However, once you have established yourself in the freelance world, you will get to pick who you want to work with. As time goes by, you will learn to figure out who is worth working with and who isn't and once you become your own boss for real, you will have the chance to choose your own clients, too.
  9. Your earning potential is much greater
Alright: salaries are comforting and safe. However, when somebody else is in charge, your earning potential will never be as great as in the freelance world. Freelancers' earning potential happens to be unlimited, so when it comes to their industry, the world will definitely be your oyster.
  10. You have longer hours to work in
The best thing about freelancing is earning more money for working harder. If somebody else is in charge, working longer won't necessarily translate to higher earnings. Although showing someone how committed and keen you are may help your career move ahead, it won't earn you more money. With freelancing, on the other hand, you can earn as much money as you want to.
  11. You line your own wallet
When you have a boss, it isn't hard to get bitter about working overtime when it seems like you aren't getting anything out of it. This won't happen in the freelance world, though, because all of the money that you make will directly flow into your own pockets.
  12. You feel more secure
As crazy as this sounds, freelancing is more secure than any other job. See, other jobs are never safe, most of all when the economy is bad. So, how is freelancing different? Well, as a freelancer, you get to control your own fate since survival is all up to you.
  13. There is a lot of available work out there
Since a lot of agencies need freelance support and a lot of small businesses need cheap services out there, you will never run out of options. All you have to do is look for them and get them. Remember: nobody else can get you that job, so prioritize when it comes to marketing, meet as many people as you can and get those jobs.
  14. You will learn a lot
Without a doubt, the freelance world comes with a lot of challenges, too, but most of the time, these challenges also come with important lessons. Working for yourself entails learning from other people that you meet, the clients that you work with and the various mistakes that you are bound to make on your journey. You will also learn a lot by striving for improvement at all times.
  15. You will become more confident
In the freelancing world, you can only depend on yourself. You have to go meetings alone, do your own work and manage your own projects. Since you will have so many responsibilities, you are sure to become more confident overall.
  16. You will build more character
When freelancing, you will be placed in many more situations compared to when you worked for somebody else - that's for sure. Sometimes, you will want to vanish into thin air, but sometimes, you will feel like the king (or queen) of the world. In fact, this entire experience might be your best experience ever.
  17. You will take pride in your work
Not everybody can become a freelancer. You have to have what it takes before you can jump into it. So, if you succeed, you can give yourself a pat on the back since freelancing takes bravery, ambition and the proper attitude to do. You will need guts to get the job done, as well, so you should be proud of achieving something that other people would have a lot of trouble doing.
  18. You can go on holidays galore
Granted, you won't make any money whenever you take time off, but you can bring your laptop on your holidays with you. Yes, freelancing definitely comes with a lot of freedom, so you can go on as many holidays as you want to - provided you can afford it, anyway.
  19. You can enjoy bigger things
Freelancing comes with the opportunity to grow until you can employ your very own staff, and who wouldn't want to succeed and create a legacy? A whole universe of opportunities awaits you in the freelance world. How far you actually make it will be completely up to you.
